Our beloved cats

Let’s introduce you to Misty and Boo, our daughter’s beloved cats. Misty joined the family in 2016 when we found her abandoned in a nearby hedge not far from our home.  Not knowing anything about cats we found ourselves on a steep learning curve trying to look after a six-week-old kitten that was clearly very nervous and in need of a great deal of tender loving care.

That was merely the start of our cat discovery story; we soon found ourselves with a pregnant cat, yes that’s right!  After reading extensively about cats and being responsible parents we arranged for Misty to be sterilised at around 5months to prevent her from breeding and protect against potential diseases.  Needless to say, when we got to the morning of the operation, you can imagine the shock when the veterinary did his pre op examination and told us she was already pregnant and was two weeks away from giving birth!!  We took the news badly, we had just moved to a new house, so everything was a bit chaotic, the school summer holidays were upon us and now we had to deal with this, what next!  After the initial shock, you can imagine how excited the kids were so we now found ourselves making room and preparing for the new additions, not knowing exactly how many would be littered.

Boo and Ginger were born!

Yes, that’s right, two kittens were born and everything went well with mother and babies in good health. The school summer holidays whisked by and the kittens kept the kids amused throughout the summer. The plan was to find new homes for them both, but of course this never quite materialized.  A friend was looking for a pet cat for her daughter so Ginger found a new home, then of course, the kids had their own way and we kept Boo.
